Company Background:

Quantum|ATL is part of Quantum Corporation's DLT and Storage Systems Group (NYSE:DSS). The company designs, manufactures, markets and services automated tape libraries used to manage, store and transfer data in networked computing environments. The company is a leading provider of DLTtapeä libraries covering a full spectrum of workgroup, departmental, midrange and enterprise-class applications. Providing the industry's most comprehensive product family ranging from desktop to data center, ATL library systems provide high-performance, proven reliability, cost-effectiveness and scalability for organizations requiring backup, archival and recovery of business-critical computer data.

ATL library systems incorporate DLTtape drives and its proprietary IntelliGripä cartridge handling system to provide customers with rapid and reliable access to computer data across a wide variety of networks. The products are compatible with commonly used system platforms, operating systems, protocols and topologies, and certified to use with a broad range of commercially available storage management software.

The most important role ATL has played in tape library technology is the development and introduction of scalable solutions for system administrators. The first step toward this end was the implementation of friendly local user interfaces and user maintainable, modular-based systems to provide users with the most efficient, reliable and easy-to-operate library systems available.

In addition to simplifying the local interface, ATL invented the industry's first web-based remote library management software called WebAdminä. Using a Java®-enabled browser, WebAdmin provides system administrators the freedom to access their ATL library from within an intranet or anywhere on the World Wide Web. WebAdmin supports remote library facilities such as library set-up, monitoring, event logging, event notification, media movement, diagnostics and predictive failure analysis that allow users to manage their library systems more effectively.

ATL also developed the first DLTtape library to incorporate an open architecture platform called Prism Storage Architectureä. The platform utilizes a PCI expansion bus and can incorporate off-the-shelf host, network and channel adapters. The Prism platform effectively isolates the tape drive and library functionality from the host by using the high bandwidth PCI bus as a freeway between the host and target. As a result, ATL P-Series library users can change both interface and drive technology by simply exchanging appropriate components of the PCI electronics.

Additionally, ATL developed the first enterprise-class, High Availability (HA) DLTtape library featuring hot-swap components for non-disruptive maintenance, redundant components for on-line replacement and direct Fibre Channel SAN connectivity for outstanding system availability and continual access to critical data.

ATL offers the industry's broadest range of tape automation systems, from seven cartridge desktop autoloaders to an enterprise-class library that scales capacity from 168 to 1,630 cartridges and accommodates up to 80 DLTtape drives for 1.4 terabytes per hour performance and 22.8 terabytes of storage capacity.

Quantum|ATL's library systems are sold worldwide through direct sales, original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and an extensive network of authorized resellers and distributors. Headquartered in Irvine, California, Quantum|ATL operates one of the world's largest manufacturing facilities for automation technology and complies with ISO 9001 quality system standards. Sales and service are provided throughout major cities in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia. Additional information is available at the company's website at: http://www.atlp.com.
